Installing ATI 8.7 Driver on Ubuntu Linux

I've been having a bit of bother these last 24 hours with the new 8.7 driver from ATI. I downloaded it from the ATI/AMD website at:

http://ati.amd.com/support/drivers/linux64/linux64-radeon.html

ATI logo with Tux the Linux PenguinRan the installer, which seemed to complete successfully, although after a reboot I was stuck in low-graphics mode.I played around with, and broke, my /etc/X11/xorg.conf files after following multiple suggestions on the Ubuntu support forums.

In the end, I stumbled upon an unoffical ATI driver wiki that had me sorted in a matter of minutes and a single reboot. Hit the link below for your fix:
